Why would a business choose to join or develop a privacy code instead of just following the law? |

The answer will include one or more of the following reasons: - they may wish, for ethical or commercial reasons, to offer a higher level of protection of their customers' personal information than the law requires
- they may want to enjoy the marketing advantages of being part of a recognisable, industry wide scheme
- they may want to trade with citizens of the European Union, in which case they will have to meet a higher standard than that which the Australia law provides.
