IIA LAUNCHES ‘RESPONSIBLE INTERNET BUSINESS’ PROGRAM The Internet Industry Association today released a new initiative aimed at providing the internet industry in Australia with a reference guide for responsible and ethical conduct for online transactions and practice. The program includes a trustmark to demonstrate to online users that the business has agreed to adhere to minimum ethical practices in their commercial dealings and their handling of personal information. The IIA’s ‘Guide to Responsible Australian Internet Business Practice’ has been developed to preserve and enhance consumer trust within content provision, usage and transactions. The IIA believes that this guide provides a solid foundation of the key values and ideals that all IIA members and businesses who transact over the Internet should abide by. “This Guide will provide the industry with a useful resource which standardises ethical business practices in relation to online commercial activities,” IIA chief executive Peter Coroneos said. This initiative is launched to coincide with National eSecurity Awareness Week with the IIA taking a proactive stance on the prevention and minimisation of spyware, viruses and spam.
