The Internet Industry Association welcomes the release of the Pilot Trials of ISP filtering and its consultation paper on mandatory ISP filtering.

For over ten years, the IIA worked with industry and government in solutions to promote a safer internet environment particular for children.

"In this regard we share the Government's commitment for a safe internet experience."

The IIA recently updated its list of family friendly filters that comply with Enex TestLab’s strict criteria offering sound cyber safety solutions for families seeking such protections.

This puts a safer internet experience within the grasp of every Australian family and it is a solution to the problem posed by internet pornography that is simple, safe, effective and available right now," Peter Coroneos said.

In addition the IIA's Family Friendly ISPs schemes refer all users to filtering options on an opt-in basis as required.

The Association will review the report and take steps to consult widely within the industry and consolidated contribution that reflects views of all aspects of the internet industry.

"We are particularly keen to hear from the smaller ISPs who may be affected more by some of the proposed measures," Coroneos said.

Additionally the IIA would like to draw attention to an important academic study - Untangling the Net due for release tomorrow. It considers the implications of adopting "Refused Classification" as the foundation for classifying matter that should be mandatorily suppressed.

Further comments, contact Peter Coroneos - chief executive.
